World Cup: Scotland go to top of Group B with 5-wicket win over Namibia
Scotland
have clinched a hard-fought victory against Namibia to ascend to the top of
Group B, marking their first T20I triumph over the African side and going to
the top of Group B. The Scots, who had their first match washed out against
England, have made things interesting in the group, which also includes
Australia. The win for Scotland has now put England and Australia in a tough
spot to qualify as the heat has been certainly turned on both teams.
Namibia,
having won the toss under overcast but dry conditions at Bridgetown, chose to
bat first. Their captain, Gerhard Erasmus, led from the front with a formidable
52 off 31 balls, propelling Namibia to a total of 155/9 at the Kensington Oval.
Scotland's bowling attack was sharp from the outset, with Brad Wheal dismissing
JP Kotze for a duck before a run was scored. Further early breakthroughs came
as Jan Frylinck and Nikolaas Davin fell during the Powerplay, with the former
dragging a Brad Currie delivery onto his stumps and the latter holing out off
Chris Sole.
