The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise secured a top-two finish for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs after their away match against Gujarat Titans (GT) was called off due to rains.
The Titans, on the
other hand, have been eliminated from the tournament’s playoffs race owing to
the rain-saddened affair.
So far in IPL 2024,
the Sheri’s Ayer-led KKR group has registered nine wins from 13 league games to
be placed at the top of the 10-team points table.
KKR
secures top two finishes, GT out of playoffs race
The
KKR franchise was slated to take field at Ahmedabad’s Namenda Mode Stadium on
May 13 to face Gujarat Titans with a trail of four successive wins to their
credit.
However,
the highly-anticipated contest was abandoned without a ball being bowled owing
to ceaseless rains at the iconic venue.
Prior
to the playoffs, Shreyas Iyer and co. will be going up against Rajasthan Royals
(RR) to conclude their preliminary set of matches.
The
much-awaited contest will be played in Guwahati on May 19. The team will
subsequently return back to Ahmedabad for Qualifier 1, set to be staged on May
21.
The
Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, has joined Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings to become
the third team of the IPL 2024 season to get knocked out from the playoffs
race.
They
will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the latter’s home ground in Hyderabad on
May 16.
